Воздействие на здоровье излучения, для которого обычно существует пороговый уровень дозы, выше которого тяжесть проявления этого эффекта возрастает с увеличением дозы. Такой эффект характеризуется как серьезный детерминированный эффект, если он является смертельным или угрожающим жизни, или же приводит к постоянному ущербу, снижающему качество жизни. Уровень пороговой дозы характеризует конкретное воздействие на здоровье, однако он может в ограниченной степени также зависеть от облучаемого человека. Примеры детерминированных эффектов включают эритему и острый лучевой синдром (лучевую болезнь). В некоторых более ранних публикациях применяется термин нестохастический эффект {non-stochastic effect; теперь он заменяется термином детерминированный эффект. Противоположный по значению термин: стохастический эффект. Наследственный эффект hereditary effect Радиационно индуцированное (вызванное излучением) воздействие на здоровье, которое проявляется у потомка облучаемого лица. Употребляется также менее точный термин 'генетический эффект', однако предпочтительным является термин наследственный эффект. Наследственные эффекты – это обычно стохастические эффекты. Ранний эффект early effect Радиационно индуцированное (вызванное излучением) воздействие на здоровье, которое проявляется в течение нескольких месяцев после облучения, вызвавшего этот эффект. Все ранние эффекты – это детерминированные эффекты; большинство детерминированных эффектов, но не все они являются ранними эффектами. позднее последствие late effect Радиационно индуцированное (вызванное излучением) воздействие на здоровье, которое проявляется в течение нескольких лет после облучения, вызвавшего этот эффект. Стохастический эффект stochastic effect Радиационно индуцированное (вызванное излучением) воздействие на здоровье, вероятность возникновения которого повышается при более высоких дозах излучения, а тяжесть проявления (если оно имеет место) – не зависит от дозы. Стохастические эффекты могут быть соматическими эффектами или наследственными эффектами и обычно не имеют порогового уровня дозы. Примерами являются солидный рак и лейкемия. Противоположный по значению термин: детерминированный эффект.
